Mark Robins (51) is currently Estate Director at the Southill Estate, Biggleswade. The Estate covers approximately 11,500 acres, of which 3,500 acres is farmed in-hand adopting regenerative agriculture techniques with approximately 5,500 acres being tenanted under Agricultural Holdings Act and Farm Business Tenancies. There are 1,000 acres of woodland and a further 1,500 acres of parkland, playing fields & other miscellaneous property. The property portfolio consists of 260 cottages and 160 commercial units, the income of which
represents a significant proportion of the Estate’s total turnover. The Estate’s location within the Varsity Link corridor (Oxford to Cambridge) provides significant opportunities for further diversification & development.
In May 2016 Mark took up the position of Estates Director for Mexborough Estates
Working in closely with the Board of Trustees and responsible to Managing Trustee for the strategic direction & day to day management of the four rural landed estate holdings located predominately in North & West Yorkshire –
• Methley Estate, a 2,500-acre estate with 1,000-acre in-hand lowland arable (& retail Christmas trees) farm; 200 acres of woodland, historic parkland, 8 tenanted farms, commercial & fishing lets; 35 residential cottages
• Thorner Estate, a 2,500-acre estate with 7 tenanted farms, 16 residential properties and 220 acres of woodland
• Hawnby & Arden Estates, 14,000-acre estate within the North York Moors National Park with a 1,500-acre in-hand upland farm, 2,250-acres of forestry & amenity; 6,000-acres of heather moorland and 21 tenanted mixed-use farms spread over 5,000-acres. A residential portfolio of 45 houses & cottages within and surrounding the estate village of Hawnby; two Principal (grade II listed) houses; let country pub and village shop & tea rooms. From 2002 to 2016 Mark was Estate Manager of the Farley Farms Estate (a privately owned 1,750 acre diversified rural Estate situated just south of Reading with in-hand dairy & arable enterprises, 400 acres of woodland, let & private driven shoot, equestrian livery yard, a small portfolio of residential & commercial let property.
He was previously Farms Manager at Moulton College, Northampton for 4 years & before that Farm Manager at Walford College, Shropshire. After leaving Shuttleworth Agricultural College in 1989 he spent 4 years as a Health & Safety Executive Inspector working in agriculture & the construction sectors.
He has been representing Dairy Crest (latterly Muller) dairy producers since 1998 & was M&S National Milk Pool Chair from April 2009 until 2016, having previously been an M&S English Pool Rep for several years.
He sat on the Institute of Agricultural Management (IAgM) ‘Farm Management’ journal committee & was invited to join the IAgrM Council in 2015 & was elected Vice Chair of Council in 2017
Mark sits on the NFU Mutual South East Reginal Advisory Board.
Mark is married to Lesley & has three grown up children (Georgia, Emily & Alfie) all of whom now live away from home.
