Objectives of the Journal Farm Management
To survey and report agricultural business management in its widest sense, including production, marketing and agricultural merchandising.
To bring both new developments and successful achievements in agricultural business management before readers.
To inform members on current thinking and research on agricultural business management in order to bridge the gap between the learned economics journals and the weekly farming journals.
To encourage an appreciation of the principles of business management and to stimulate objective thinking by including contributions from non-agricultural sources, where relevant.

The Journal serves a mixed audience of academics, advisers and practitioners in agricultural management. Articles are thus sought which apply theory to practice, present the results of investigational work, or explore the impact of new developments. Articles which solely discuss aspects of research methodology, and/or seek to address an academic audience alone, will not normally be considered suitable; the Chair of the Editorial Committee can advise upon submission of an abstract.

The prime focus is the UK, but the Editorial Board is very willing to consider contributions from other countries where the message has general application.

You are welcome to send abstracts for comment to -

Notes for Contributors
Articles will be considered provided they have not already been offered, or are being offered, to any other journal for publication. Articles are scrutinised by a combination of specialist referees and an expert Editorial Committee. The Committee will also consider publishing conference papers, and shorter notes expressing particular viewpoints.
Authors are asked to supply six copies of articles submitted (of one copy in the case of contributors outside Western Europe). Articles should be typewritten on one side of A4 size paper, using double-line spacing and wide left hand margins. Pages must be numbered. Tables should be on separate numbered sheets and their positions indicated in the text.
Articles should be concise and, except in exceptional circumstances, should not exceed 5,000 words. The approximate number of words should be indicated.
An abstract should be provided to explain the purpose and conclusions of the contribution. This should not exceed 60 words.
A list of keywords, not exceeding six in number, should be provided.
References should be cited using the Harvard System. Each entry in the reference should include name and initials of author(s), year of publication, followed by either (in the case of articles), title of article, title of periodical, volume number, issue number, first and last page references; or (in the case of books), title of book, edition number, publisher, place of publication, first and last page references.
The corresponding author should be identified (including a phone and fax number and an email address). Full postal addresses and full biographical notes must be given for all co-authors. The short biographical notes will eventually be published at the end of the article.
Tables, graphs and diagrams should be as simple as possible and restricted to essential explanations. Graphs and diagrams should be clear and labelled, and provided as good quality, camera-ready copy.
Photographs must be clean sharp prints on glossy paper with good contrast. Colour slides are usually unsuitable for reproduction.
All units of measurement should be in the metric system; SI units may be used but are not obligatory.
Authors of published articles will be supplied with 12 copies of the relevant issue of the Journal for their own use. Additional reprints of articles will be available, at cost.
Articles for publication should be addressed to: Jeremy Franks, The School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, SAFRD, King George VI Building, University of Newcastle , Newcastle upn Tyne, NE1 7RU.
